Theatre Comique

About Our Name

Theatre Comique was a name used for many American variety theatres in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. These theatres presented a uniquely American style of music emerging with its own identity out of European traditions. Our commitment to preserving the rich musical and theatrical styles of early Broadway and vaudeville is reflected in the use of this once-familiar venue name. The name, slightly absurd in its pretension to high art, denotes above all an experience of fun and whimsy.
